It is no secret that I see the earth as a woman – and I am surely not the only one. I see this most clearly in rolling hills, they’re soft curves reminiscent of hips or waists or breasts, they’re movement suggesting a reclining woman, inviting us in. 

The Finding Her in the Hills series is an abstract figurative study in this idea, first inspired by the hills of Terlingua, TX which sat right outside my casita during my residency at Willow House. The series borrows heavily from the pinks and purples of a desert sunset. 

This painting was completed during my residency at Willow House in Terlingua, TX. This painting was painted outside in the desert summer; all imperfections are intentional and contribute to the character of the painting. The painting ships framed with hanging hardware installed. Please note this painting is included in my show, “from dreams i had of flowers” at 29 Palms Art Gallery and will ship first week of October, after the show closes.
