It is no secret that I see the earth as a woman – and I am surely not the only one. I see this most clearly in rolling hills, their soft curves reminiscent of hips or waists or breasts, their movement suggesting a reclining woman, inviting us in. 

The Finding Her in the Hills series is an abstract figurative study in this idea, first inspired by the hills of Terlingua, TX which sat right outside my casita during my residency at Willow House. The series borrows heavily from the pinks and purples of a desert sunset; this painting borrows from the reds and oranges of the soils of New Mexico. 

This painting was concepted and completed at Sunlit Ranch in Tucumcari, NM. The painting ships framed with hanging hardware installed. Please note this painting is included in my show, “from dreams i had of flowers” at 29 Palms Art Gallery and will ship first week of October, after the show closes.
